New players are often suggested to try out NPCing for their first few games, but it is not required. If you want to be a Player Character, or PC, read this page for more details!

PCs are the heroes of the world! They have the agency to do what they want and affect the world most directly. They solve the problems posed by the plot team, and are the big damned heroes of the world.

If this sounds appealing to you, here are some things to do to get ready for PCing:

  1. Reach out to the New Player Representative. The New Player Rep has a ton of resources available that can help you get ready for your first game. They are the first tool in your toolbelt for getting ready for your first event. They aren't a replacement for anything else in this list, but they are certainly a huge asset to your process and can answer all your questions!
  2. Read (or at least skim) the rulebook. The rulebook (linked above under "Rulebooks" in the menu) is the source of all the most important information in the game. You'll need to choose a species and a class to start. These decisions affect the whole of your game, and although you can change them later, they really influence how your first game or so goes, so choose wisely!
  3. Create your character on the online database. The online db, also known as the RDB, is where you buy the skills for your character, and make your character's card. You will also register for your first event here. Please feel free to ask questions if you have them about any part of this process.
  4. Submit a backstory to plot. This is an entirely optional step, but it will help your character come to life. If you check out the FAQs, there's a section on creating a backstory that can help you with this process.
  5. Speaking of the FAQs, be sure to read them! This document will answer a lot of the questions you probably have getting ready for your first event, including things like what to pack.
  6. Email your starting loot list to Logistics. If you are unsure of how to do this, please reach out to either Logistics or the New Player Representative.
  7. Finally, be sure to introduce yourself on our social media pages! You can find them on our Contact Us pages. Join us and make some friends before you come!

Whew! That's a lot. It may seem daunting, but it's totally possible to manage. If you need any help, feel free to reach out and ask. We're very happy to help! Likewise, if this seems too daunting, consider NPCing your first event to get to know people and the game a little before you have to launch into all of this. Either way, we're happy to have you!
